But Gala secretary Charlotte Paul managed to persuade them to stop off in tiny Leadhills and perform there.

Hide Ad“They were absolutely fantastic. The children were great,” said Sarah Alcock who chairs the gala committee.
She added that the motorbike stars were “quite shocked” when they arrived in Leadhills, on their way south from performing in Inverness, to see how small and remote it was!
The committee had been fundraising all year and had enough to cover the spectacular show.
“We had the largest number of people ever seen at the gala,” added Sarah. “It was jam-packed full.”

The weather was brilliant too, with sunshine for the fancy dress and for the crowning of gala queen Beth Alderman by Dr Gordon MacEwen, who had retired after many years as the local doctor.
