NHS Lanarkshire names its choice for new Monklands site
The board met last week and approved the recommendation of Wester Moffat as the preferred location - having judged via a public consultation process that alternative sites in Gartcosh and Glenmavis were not as suitable.
Wester Moffat is located south of Plains on the far side of Airdrie from the existing site - and the nearest station is Drumgelloch.

Hide AdIt has been stressed however that the final decision on the site will be made by the cabinet secretary for health and sport, Jean Freeman.
Neena Mahal, Chair of the Board of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “This decision marks a significant milestone in our exciting project to create a world-class hospital to serve the communities of Lanarkshire in coming decades.
“I would like to thank the public and our staff for their extensive participation during the engagement process “The feedback we received proved invaluable in helping board members to give thorough consideration to the issues of key interest to members of the community, such as travel and transport, site contamination, cross-boundary flow of patients and the socio-economic impact of relocating the hospital.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the hard work of the Monklands Replacement Project team, who provided the Board with the information which formed the basis of our deliberations.”
